Weighted Blankets and Breast Cancer

Cancer Today Magazine published a fascinating article by Tyler Santora in their Summer 2024 issue on this topic. It’s very encouraging for fighters in that it details a small study with 75 participants who reported feeling less anxious after laying under a 5lb weighted blanket for 20 minutes. Each person lay under the blanket before and after treatment and relayed feeling calm. It was removed if the patient felt too warm or the blanket was too heavy.

How promising this is for fighters and survivors. This can be a simple low-cost treatment that yields big returns. Anything that makes treatment more bearable is a plus in my book. I can’t wait to read what further research on this subject reveals.

Welcome to Melanin & Pink Ribbons: A Blog for Black Women Fighting and Surviving Breast Cancer. It was born out of my personal journey as a patient not seeing very many images of women who looked like me fighting this disease. So, when I became a survivor, I did something about it. This is a space to learn and become empowered with information so we as a community can thrive into survivorship.
