Yoga although commonplace may still be a mystery or unclear to some of us. Yoga is a set of principles and life practices developed in India. The goal of yoga is to unite the mind, body and spirit cohesively and harmoniously.
Research conducted on breast cancer patients has shown improvement with:
- Reducing stress
- Improving sleep
- Less fatigue
- Improvement in quality of life
- Better physical performance
A yoga session can last anywhere from 20 minutes to 1 hour. The session usually entails learning a series of poses depending on the type of yoga you are participating in. The poses are done standing, sitting or laying down. You also learn breathing techniques to help control and unite the mind and body.
Like anything its always best to discuss with your medical team who may have a local resource that they can refer you to that has yoga sessions specifically for fighters and survivors. Don’t be afraid to try something new to have a better quality of life and more comfort.
