When is it performed?
- After a mammogram, sonogram that shows a suspicious area
- A lump is detected by you doctor during a clinical exam or you during a Breast Self-Exam/BSE
- Signs of discharge or dimpling of the surface of the breast
Where is the procedure performed? In a hospital or surgical center setting with proper medical staffing is where the biopsy can be performed.
Why is the biopsy necessary? A medical professional determines after reviewing test results and or a clinical exam you warrant further examination. The suspicious mass must be tested to see if it is benign (non-cancerous) or malignant (cancerous).
