WELCOME

On this the first day of October 2021 which is recognized as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, I found it fitting to debut this blog for Black women fighting and surviving breast cancer. In the social media landscape through this blog I plan to provide information to educate, empower and hopefully remove the fear surrounding breast cancer in my community. There will be interviews with those in the fight and those who have survived. The ultimate goal is to share my journey and that of others so you the reader may embrace the mantra “early detection saves lives” and eradicate the crippling fear surrounding this disease.

It is time that we as Black women take full advantage of the of the tools available to us to detect breast cancer as early as possible. Breast Self Exam, mammograms, breast sonograms, clinical breast exams done by a medical professional as well as risk assessment tools which is basically a series of questions on medical history are early detection tools that can help discover your cancer in early stages. Don’t let fear rob you of your precious life.

This is such a great thing that you are doing. BIPOC women are often left out of the conversation and their experiences can be totally different. Thank you for helping our sisters out with your testimony and knowledge.

Welcome to Melanin & Pink Ribbons: A Blog for Black Women Fighting and Surviving Breast Cancer. It was born out of my personal journey as a patient not seeing very many images of women who looked like me fighting this disease. So, when I became a survivor, I did something about it. This is a space to learn and become empowered with information so we as a community can thrive into survivorship.
