Pink Washing vs Real Empowerment

Too often during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, companies slap a pink ribbon on products and call it a day. That’s called pink washing—using breast cancer awareness as a marketing ploy without contributing to real change, education, or support for those impacted.

✨ At Melanin & Pink Ribbons, we are different. We stand on truth, empowerment, and information:

I am a survivor. This isn’t theory—it’s my lived journey, and I bring honesty to the conversation. Representation matters. Black women face unique risks and disparities in breast cancer care. We amplify our stories and our voices. Education first. We don’t just sell products—we share facts, resources, and real tools for awareness and prevention. Authentic empowerment. Every piece of content is designed to uplift, not exploit. Community-driven. This brand is about building connection and strength, not profits over people.

I believe in helping others, because survival is more than a diagnosis—it’s a mission.

I’m Cynthia

Welcome to Melanin & Pink Ribbons: A Blog for Black Women Fighting and Surviving Breast Cancer. It was born out of my personal journey as a patient not seeing very many images of women who looked like me fighting this disease. So, when I became a survivor, I did something about it. This is a space to learn and become empowered with information so we as a community can thrive into survivorship.
