How to Manage Breast Cancer Treatment Side Effects

Treatments for breast cancer can be lifesaving but daunting to deal with in terms of physical symptoms. Thankfully a few simple dietary changes make a difference for the fighter. Check out these easy fixes:

  • Loss of Appetite can be managed by eating smaller meals or multiple snacks during the day
  • Constipation is made more bearable by drinking plenty of water and using a fiber supplement
  • Diarrhea can be helped by selecting foods high in sodium or enjoying a sports drink or foods with increased potassium
  • Nausea is relieved by ginger, peppermint or citrus
  • Loss of taste may be improved by choosing foods with a stronger taste
  • Oatmeal is a good source of fiber
  • Eggs, yogurt, and hummus are usually tolerable proteins
  • Avocados are high in fat and fiber and can aid in keeping your weight in a healthy range
  • Soups and broths are easy to digest

As always consult your medical team to get personalized advice.

I’m Cynthia

Welcome to Melanin & Pink Ribbons: A Blog for Black Women Fighting and Surviving Breast Cancer. It was born out of my personal journey as a patient not seeing very many images of women who looked like me fighting this disease. So, when I became a survivor, I did something about it. This is a space to learn and become empowered with information so we as a community can thrive into survivorship.
