The Importance of Food While Fighting Breast Cancer

While fighting breast cancer we may be overwhelmed and not able to make good food choices. I must say please inform your medical team. Often there are resources available, but they are unknown to us.   A dietician can offer you specialized information and aid in options that nourish your body.

Your diet is important during treatment because a healthy diet and weight assist in healing and:

  • Manage side effects
  • Increase energy
  • Increase muscle tone
  • Preserve immune function
  • Reduces inflammation

Chemo and radiation have various side effects such as:

  • Constipation
  • Diarrhea
  • Fatigue
  • Loss of taste
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting

Don’t be intimidated or discouraged by being in active treatment for breast cancer and unable to manage food choices. There is support for you, just ask your medical team for help.

Welcome to Melanin & Pink Ribbons: A Blog for Black Women Fighting and Surviving Breast Cancer. It was born out of my personal journey as a patient not seeing very many images of women who looked like me fighting this disease. So, when I became a survivor, I did something about it. This is a space to learn and become empowered with information so we as a community can thrive into survivorship.
