An African proverb states, “It takes a village to raise a child.” I maintain our ancestors had the right sentiment and it will take a village to effectuate change in the Black community regarding breast cancer. This blogpost highlights Tesha Bouler who hosts the podcast Tesha’s Tea Room on Youtube. I encourage you to tap this link to subscribe to her channel and tell a friend!

Tesha was diagnosed in February 2014 and is a 10-year survivor. Tesha’s Tea Room was born after she was a guest on a podcast sharing her journey. She fell in love with the idea of having a platform for young women of color facing breast cancer. We know the statistics in this demographic are startlingly high. So, she took a leap of faith and began her podcast in June 2020 to make a difference and serve as a reference point for young Black women. It has steadily grown and increased viewership. She reaches dozens of views per episode as her guests delineate their journey with transparency and encouragement. Each episode covers breast cancer and surrounding topics.
Active fighters need to see others who look like them who have survived and Tesha’s Tea Room fits that bill. Social media has become the go-to place for sharing information and her voice is vital in the breast cancer landscape. I applaud her and her efforts to shine a light of survivorship for others to follow.
