Let’s Begin a New Holiday Tradition

The fight to move the needle for Black women and breast cancer is a grassroots endeavor. It happens when I talk to someone, and they speak to someone. So, with that in mind, I challenge you to begin a new holiday tradition by asking your loved ones if they had their breast cancer screening this year. You are going to be around them anyway so before you eat that second plate of food, pull out the cards to play spades or turn up the music and dance the night away ask has everyone had their breast cancer screenings. Simple and easy question to ask and answer. Hopefully, everyone in your circle has but if they have not it will be a reminder to schedule one. End the year strong and proactive! Your life depends on it!

Welcome to Melanin & Pink Ribbons: A Blog for Black Women Fighting and Surviving Breast Cancer. It was born out of my personal journey as a patient not seeing very many images of women who looked like me fighting this disease. So, when I became a survivor, I did something about it. This is a space to learn and become empowered with information so we as a community can thrive into survivorship.
