Women’s Health & Cancer Rights Act
Did you in 1998 a federal law was passed that affects fighters of breast cancer? It’s named the Women’s Health & Cancer Rights Act and it guarantees protections and baseline healthcare for patients. It entitles breast cancer patients to:
- Reconstructive surgery if you have a mastectomy
- Surgery and reconstruction of the unaffected breast to provide symmetry
- Prostheses and treatment for all stages of the mastectomy including lymphedema treatment
If you have health insurance through your employer or union you’re entitled to this coverage. Even if you have individual coverage outside of the workplace you can get this coverage. It’s crucially important to know what is available to you so you don’t leave any benefits on the table. Make sure you advocate for this if you need it.
