You’re a Caregiver, Now What?

Do you find yourself as a caregiver to someone fighting breast cancer? Are you:

  • Providing emotional support
  • Lending a spiritual ear or advice
  • Assisting with daily needs like bathing or bathroom
  • Dispensing medications
  • Preparing food
  • Transporting to doctor’s appointment or treatment

If your answer to any of these is yes, then you are a caregiver and YOU need support. Don’t be afraid to:

  • Ask for aid from your helping circle
  • Keep your routine as much as possible
  • Find time to relax & recharge
  • Prepare yourself that 1 or 2 individuals may not respond to help you
  • Process your feelings
  • Join a support group
  • Journal your feeling
  • Talk to others to relieve your stress
  • Keep a positive attitude
  • Maintain your health via exercise, vitamins, and healthy meals with a good dose of rest

Welcome to Melanin & Pink Ribbons: A Blog for Black Women Fighting and Surviving Breast Cancer. It was born out of my personal journey as a patient not seeing very many images of women who looked like me fighting this disease. So, when I became a survivor, I did something about it. This is a space to learn and become empowered with information so we as a community can thrive into survivorship.
