A Video For The Brothers: How To Do A Breast Self Exam

June is Men’s Health Month and my blog is entirely dedicated to the brothers and breast cancer this month.

This video shares how they can do a BSE also known as a Breast Self Exam. I know my average reader is a woman but you have men in your life that you love and value and share this with them. They need to be aware of the signs and symptoms of breast cancer because they can get it too.

Just like the one I did for the sisters, this video is my creative idea, I wrote the script, researched the facts, and its it my conception. I am fortunate to have a fantastically gifted woman artist to bring my idea to life. This video was born because there are so few resources on Black men and breast cancer and I didn’t find one instructional video. So, because I didn’t see one I created it. Hopefully one day the landscape for information will be truly colorblind but until then I will unapologetically remain steadfast in bringing awareness to breast cancer and early detection in my community. I give to you my video This One Is For The Brothers!

Welcome to Melanin & Pink Ribbons: A Blog for Black Women Fighting and Surviving Breast Cancer. It was born out of my personal journey as a patient not seeing very many images of women who looked like me fighting this disease. So, when I became a survivor, I did something about it. This is a space to learn and become empowered with information so we as a community can thrive into survivorship.
