Virtual and Online Support Groups

Perhaps you are feeling overwhelmed. Do you or a loved one need assistance to maintain your peace of mind?  Are you in need of buttressing your emotions in your new reality as an active breast cancer patient or survivor? If you do there is NO shame in it! Actually, it makes you human and the first step to improving or resolving an issue is admitting you need help. Every mountain that is climbed begins with a single step. Take the brave step to help yourself and explore a support group.

Support groups serve a variety of great purposes:

  • Prevention of Anxiety and Depression
  • Reduce Stress
  • Shared Experience Can Bring Camaraderie
  • Social Support
  • Emotional Support

When these support groups are virtual or online, we can literally hold them in the palm of our hand with our cell phones. To be totally honest they are convenient and more accessible these days, all we must do is seek them out. Below is a short list intended for you to use to begin your search and remember to check with your medical team for local resources.

  • cancercare.org provides a free 15-week online support group
  • nationalbreastcancer.org provides virtual support groups

I’m Cynthia

Welcome to Melanin & Pink Ribbons: A Blog for Black Women Fighting and Surviving Breast Cancer. It was born out of my personal journey as a patient not seeing very many images of women who looked like me fighting this disease. So, when I became a survivor, I did something about it. This is a space to learn and become empowered with information so we as a community can thrive into survivorship.
