Long-Term Side Effects of Chemotherapy

Most people have heard stories of the negative side effects of chemo. We have all seen a bald woman making the best of her situation and felt sorry for her, all the while thankful it was not us. Although accurate, sharing negative side effects fosters an atmosphere of fear and feeds the stigma of breast cancer on the most basic level. Let me be clear, I am not saying hide away or deny the truth. Rather what I am saying is to change the narrative, side effects are temporary, and Side effects can often be controlled with medicine. Side effects mean you are allowing medical treatment that is saving your life, so although tough and often excruciating you are alive and living to tell the tale!

Welcome to Melanin & Pink Ribbons: A Blog for Black Women Fighting and Surviving Breast Cancer. It was born out of my personal journey as a patient not seeing very many images of women who looked like me fighting this disease. So, when I became a survivor, I did something about it. This is a space to learn and become empowered with information so we as a community can thrive into survivorship.
